Since 1989. One rule for every patient.

Dr. Kyle Edlund opened Woodbury Dental Care in 1989 on the Golden Rule: treat patients the way you would want to be treated. Our dentists, and a team some of whom have been here for thirty years, still work to it on Radio Drive.

Our story, since 1989

In 1989 Dr. Kyle Edlund opened this practice on one rule: treat every patient the way you would want your own family treated. The office has grown from seven treatment bays to seventeen, and the rule has not moved an inch.

Dr. Pelke and Dr. Wernberg own the practice now. Many of our patients have been with us for decades, and a few of them now work here.

Grew up here

Some of us sat in these chairs first.

Dr. Shimota was a lifelong WDC patient before he was a dentist here. So were two of our hygienists, and our office manager. In their own words:

How a visit feels

Comfort is built in, not added on.

Our team chose dentistry to help people, and part of that is making the appointment itself easy to sit through.

The lobby lounge: blue armchairs and a round table in front of the fireplace and a TV.
01

Coffee, and a fireplace

The problem: waiting rooms that make you more nervous, not less.

Help yourself to a drink from the coffee bar and sit by the fire. It is a lounge, not a row of chairs against a wall.

A treatment room at Woodbury Dental Care with a window, an ergonomic chair and a ceiling-mounted TV.
02

Blankets, pillows, warm towels

The problem: an hour in a dental chair feels longer than an hour.

An ergonomic chair, a neck pillow and a blanket, headphones and a TV in every treatment room, and a warm towel when you are done. Nitrous oxide if you want it.

The sterilization center at Woodbury Dental Care, with autoclaves and instrument cabinets.
03

A sterilization center you can see

The problem: the part of a dental office nobody shows you.

This is ours. Alex, our clinical coordinator since 2010, maintains it, and it is where the clean, safe treatment rooms you sit in actually come from.

What people ask about most.

Invisalign

A digital scan instead of impression paste. Each set of aligners is worn for one to three weeks, with a check-in about every six weeks.

Crowns & Bridges

Porcelain or zirconia, designed from a scan taken in seconds and made by a trusted local lab. Usually two appointments.

Root Canal Treatment

Usually two visits. The tooth is numbed with a strong local anesthetic, and nitrous oxide is there if you want it.

Cosmetic Dentistry

It starts with an exam, then a conversation about what you want your smile to look like. Bonding a single tooth, or a full makeover.

Implants & technology

Planned in 3-D. Placed and restored here.

Our own dentists place and restore dental implants, so you are not sent to a specialist and back. It works in four steps.

  1. Plan. A 3-D cone beam scan shows the bone and the nerves, and fixes the exact position.
  2. Place. Because it is mapped first, placing the titanium post takes a little over an hour.
  3. Heal. Over several months the implant bonds with the bone. If there is not enough bone, we graft it first.
  4. Restore. A crown on a single implant, or a bridge or denture on several.

The 3-D cone beam unit, a few steps from the treatment rooms.
  • Digital impressionsA handheld scanner captures a 3-D model of your teeth in seconds. No cold, goopy paste.
  • Low-dose digital x-raysAbout 80 percent less radiation than film, and on the monitor straight away.
  • Intraoral camerasYou see the crack or the worn filling on the chairside screen, as we do.
  • 3-D cone beam CTFor implants, extractions and root canals, and to diagnose TMJ disorders.
  • Nitrous oxideLaughing gas through a small nasal mask. It wears off before you leave.
  • TVs in every treatment roomA pleasant distraction for the longer appointments.

Common questions

What people ask before they book.

Do you accept my insurance?

We are in-network with Delta Dental Premier and HealthPartners Open Access, and as a courtesy we file every claim for you electronically, in network or out. We will give you our best estimate of your share, though the final figure is your insurer’s decision. No insurance at all? Ask about the WDC Private Plan.

I’m nervous about coming in. How can you help?

Tell us when you call. We explain every procedure before we start, always numb the area with a strong local anesthetic first, and offer nitrous oxide if you would like to relax further. Neck pillows, blankets, headphones and a TV are in every treatment room, and there is a warm towel at the end.

What counts as a dental emergency?

Toothaches, broken teeth, gum inflammation, jaw pain or swelling, dental trauma, and lost fillings or crowns. Call as soon as you can: time is held in the schedule every day for patients in pain. Outside office hours, call the same number and listen for the prompts to reach an emergency dentist.

When should my child first see a dentist?

Within six months of their first baby tooth, or by age one at the latest. After that, a checkup every six months, with sealants and fluoride to protect small teeth, and nitrous oxide if a filling is ever needed.

Are dental x-rays safe?

Our digital x-rays use as much as 80 percent less radiation than film, and we only take them when they are needed. When we do, we tell you why, and what they can show that a visual exam cannot: decay between teeth, bone loss, impacted wisdom teeth.

I’m unhappy with how my teeth look. Where do we start?

With an exam, because cavities or gum disease have to be settled before cosmetic work. Then one of our dentists asks what you would like to change and sets out the options: whitening, bonding, veneers, aesthetic crowns or Invisalign.
